Change Browser Download Options

Often in Blackboard you will be required to download artifacts for your classes: PDFs, Word docs, etc. How Blackboard handles downloads will depend on the settings of your Internet Browser. You can customize these settings easily depending on your preferred browser. Select the browser you would like assistance with by selecting the name on the table of contents to the right.

Because most browsers are updated regularly, you might find that after an update your browser experiences compatibility issues within Blackboard. We have found that the least problematic browser for Windows users is Firefox, and for Mac users, Chrome.

Google Chrome

In Chrome, you can modify your Download settings by opening the customization menu in the upper right of your browser. Click the wrench icon and choose Settings.

The Settings Menu will open as a new browser window. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Show Advanced Settings, then look for the section for Downloads.

To view what you've already downloaded, you can open the Downloads menu by clicking the wrench icon and choosing Downloads (or Ctrl+J on your keyboard). This will open all of your downloads in a list in a new browser window, or you can click the Open Downloads folder to view them in Windows Explorer.

Mozilla Firefox

In Firefox, open the menu in the upper left by clicking on the dropdown arrow. Then click Options, and Options again.

In the Options menu, open the General tab. From there you can modify and specify how you want the browser to handle downloaded documents.

In Firefox, you can always see what you've already downloaded by opening the main menu, and clicking Downloads. This will open a new window, where you can see everything you've downloaded since the last time you cleared your list or download history.
